Ethnomusicology UCLA archives by Listen Recovery

Marlon Fuentes is member of Listen Recovery Crew, born in Mexico City in the early 80’s.

Marlon is a student at UCLA and a member of the Ethnomusicology program.   Early 2008 Peru Negro was departing to their new tour, a 68 city tour in the States.  For Los Angelinos, Peru Negro performed at UCLA’s Royce Hall selling out the night.  The same day of the concert, Marlon Fuentes and the Crew, offered a mixer for the members of Peru Negro at the Ethnomusicology Building, only one block from the Royce Hall.  We created an exposition about vinyl records of Solidarity from Latin America.  Its a window display that stretches for about 20 feet.  Marlon organized the entire display and with the help of Renz, Rich Spirit and Still Wil launch the release of “the Ethnomusicology Archives” presented by Listen Recovery.  The mixer was an invitation to all the Ethno students and the whole percussion cast of Peru Negro with maestros Ronni Campos & Marcos Campos.  It was an honor and a privileged  to host the ambassadors of Peruvian Culture.  Peru Negro will travel once again to the States soon, to give us another original and cultural experience.

Enjoy this photos that we took the day of the mixer at the Ethnomusicology Dept Building.  And also photos of the concert at the Royce Hall with some back stage encounters.

After the mixer and window display showing, we took a quick trip to Marlon’s crip down the street from UCLA.  We discuss the future of the display and blessed one before heading to the main show at the Royce Hall.  The night was beautiful, full of Peruvians fans and Ethno enthusiastics.  Peru Negro was ready to give us another “Negritud Music” experience.  Here are some pics from the show.  Our gratitude goes to the entire cast of Peru Negro and ‘el maestro’ Juan Morillo.
