Wow…I cannot believe that the legend that is Bob actually graced the stage of the Crystal Palace Bowl. The pictures are amazing, what a shame the bowl doesn’t still host such high calibre artists and performers. As community publisher I would love to know if you have any more pictures of great performances at the Crystal Palace Bowl?? Also would I be able to use some of these pics on my website?

I was there! I was one of the people in the lake in front of the stage. Beng in my late 50s and with health problems now I had almost forgotten until someone on Facebook jogged my memory as my memory is not good these days.

The audio of this show is amazing, but I can imagine it would never compare to the experience of that afternoon.
I was there too…sitting on the little hill in the sunshine watching and hearing this great band…and what a beautiful day it was!! His songs were like good friends and always caught the vibe and helped create smiling faces…and they still do. Thank you for the joy, Bob.
My wife of 6 months and I were there floating on a haze. We adored Marley – and still do – and I proposed after an Average Whites gig so it didn’t get much better. After the gig we crashed out in front of a Pink Panther film at the Biograph in Victoria – a venue that, it turned out was also somewhere the homeless of South London could catch some cheap zees in. We laughed all the way home. What a day. Miss you Bob – more than I miss childhood.
I was also at Crystal Palace on that amazing afternoon with my friend Sandra who was visiting London for the weekend. Still have the t-shirt!!

BRILLIANT DAY THE PRODUCTION WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD THE Q TIPS AWB AND JOE JACKSON WERE AWESOME THE I THREES BEAUTIFUL I REMEMBER LOADS OF PEOPLE HIGH UP IN THE TREES LISTENING AND WATCHING BOB STOPPED THE SHOW AND ANNOUNCED THAT IF EVERYBODY DIDNT GET OUT OF THE TREES THE SHOW HAD TO STOP – THEY PAID NO ATTENTION FIVE MINS LATER THE TREE FELL AND LOADS OF PEOPLE WERE JUMPING OFF INTO THE LAKE AS IT CRASHED TOWARDS THE WATER! – HILARIOUS! GREAT DAY I WAS SMOKING A PIPE CARVED FROM A POTATO MAJIC DAY
This was one of the greatest days of my life. I was a teenager then but am now 50. Bob Marley’s music has always been with me… when I am down I play Marley…. when I am up I am play Marley. Bob Marley is no longer with us but after all these years his music is still so alive. That is why he is a legend.. a true musical genius.

I was there at the young age of 21 what a great day it was – I did feel worried though when people in the pond kept throwing water up on the stage when Joe Jackson was playing – he even asked them to stop . I liked his set – also Paul young with his Q tips were good and the average white band but I think everyone was waiting for Bob and the Wailers – they never turned up till around 6 -7pm on their bus as I can remember and loved when he sang redemption Songs and everyone was just quite – shivers down your spine : ) was a total iriee day out a lot of people including me had a liccle spliff ( don’t smoke no more back in them days weed wasnt like skunk ect was mostly natural : ) ) what a day I will never forget R.I.P. Bob never fogotten Jah bless all One Love guidence X ( )
I was an American student living in London for the year. Another friend from the States came to visit and she and others with her were going to the concert, so I tagged along. I had never heard of Bob Marley. We got there very early in the a.m., maybe 8 or 9 a.m. and were some of the first there. I remember the security guard stopping a car and grilling those inside “We’re the Wailers”, they said sternly. They drove in. We sat right on the edge of the lakein the green grass. The sun was bright, the crowd got denser and denser. Finally people jumped in the lake about the time Joe Jackson came onstage. Someone broke a duck’s neck and threw it at Joe Jackson, to me it seemed “out of the blue”. Jackson expressed disgust; was irate. I think he cursed and left the stage. It was disturbing and I remember being bewildered that more people didn’t seem upset that witnessed it. It started to be a juxtaposition of bright sunshine and music and filth in the lake. Why weren’t other people upset? People seemed to be in an altared state. People threw garbage in the lake. The minnows started washing up at my feet. The grass became mud. The crowd went further than I could see, dancing, swaying, happy, but then those minnows kept washing up. Marley was enlivening and energized. I was there too ! My memory of the day is a little fuzzy mainly due to the cloud of blue smoke that had accumulated over the crowd leading up to Bob Marley’s performance ! Thanks for the photos and reminding me of a great day !
I was 16 and travelled with my friend from Didcot nr Oxford. What a day! I remember being stood near most of Steel Pulse when Bob sang redemption song, tears were shed. I also remember copious amounts of the herb being passed around. My friend, like Bob, is no longer with us and as I sail into my 50’s, this beautiful day is a great memory I share with the both of them.
Amazing day!! I went with my friend Tricia. We were both teens – I told my parents I was going camping in the Lake District as there was no way they would let me go, and i just HAD to see him. Hot day, When we were walking up to concert, I remember people selling stuff – a guy with a machetti chopping water melons, another shouting “get your stray juice??” Which I think was pineapple juice. Highlight was bob singing redemption. Love the pictures
