Some of you guys might know by now from our previews blogs about our man, Jonas Lynch. Fine artist from the state of Iowa, commuted to Long Beach CA about 12 years ago, were his ignition for fine art started. Jonas is a graphic designer as well as a tattoo apprentice now living in Sacramento, CA. Last Wed. FEB. 3rd, Jonas showed up to our HQ at LISTEN RECOVERY with a new painting commission for a private collector in Malibu, CA. The Private collector had bought his one of a kind piece of Billy Holiday (singer) and had asked Jonas to paint a portrait of Mr. John Coltrane. Jonas came up with the idea of painting a 36″ x 36″ canvas this time instead of his usual 36″ x 24″. The jazz mood cool feeling was flowing… and Mr. Lynch go to it in no time. By the time he arrived at our HQ, he only had to paint the few touches for the shadows… Here are some flix from that day!

The topic was simple and essential for the roster of musicians. Bobby Martel also know as Robert “Bob” Nesta Marley. And before I forget to mention this: “The white phone book pages are from JAMAICA!… might find some famous JM last names in there some where… Nuff said. Here are the flix… Dig’ it!
The Art of JONAS LYNCH: Autobiography & photos
Posted in arte universal / universal art, Jonas Lynch Art, Listen Recovery on June 19, 2009 by Listen RecoveryJonas Lynch was born in Wheatridge, Colorado on June 11, 1980. Shortly after, Jonas moved to Northwest Iowa where he was raised until 1998. When he was 18, Jonas moved to Long Beach California to attend school for graphic design.
It was when Jonas was 9 years old that he found his love with art. He started by recreating the logos of sports teams and other subjects that evolved around professional sports. Jonas only drew pictures of sports images for years following.
Jonas was introduced to Salvador Dali and Hieronymus Bosch at age 16, which tore him away from drawing the sports images. One year later Jonas graduated high school from LeMars Community High School. Three months later, Jonas moved to Long Beach California in 1998. He moved to California to learn graphic design at Brooks College. After graduating in May, 2000, Jonas designed apparel for many NCAA universities and all four branches of the military. This lasted for 5 years, when he decided to try something different. Within this 5 years, Jonas started to be an active artist by way of live painting. He took multiple trips to San Diego to live paint during performances by Al Howard & the K23 Orchestra. This move to face his nervous tendencies and live paint re-sparked his love of art. This phase of his art lasted maybe 4 years before he found his signature.
In June, 2006, Jonas began designing for a local concert venue in Long Beach. He had been doing graphic design for all of the concerts for about a year before he reached another pivotal point in his artistic development. December, 2006, Jonas’ co-worker Jawahar Mohanty commissioned him to paint a high contrast, black and white portrait of Charlie Chaplin. Jonas received such a feedback that he went for it. The next in the series was produced with newspaper clippings behind an image of Louis Armstrong. Again, the feedback was tremendous. He was to be live painting on new years eve going into 2007 in San Diego. At the hotel room, he noticed he had forgotten newspapers to paste onto his canvas. All that was near in the hotel room was a phone book and a bible……he made the wise decision and went for the phone book. He then used the phonebooks as the background for his new series of musicians and other iconic figures, which spawns the concept that these particular figures are who they are because of the people behind them…..hence the people in the phone book pasted right behind the image of the the artist. At this point, Jonas took advantage of the fact that musical celebrities were in and out of the venue on a regular basis. Now he takes advantage of his open doors. Every time Jonas gets a chance to meet an artist that moves him, he paints two of the same portrait of that artist….one for the artist to have as a gift, and the second is signed by the artist and put into his collection of autographed portraits which now includes such greats as: George Clinton, Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, and more.
